Sun Life Hong Kong Joins Hands with Uplifters for Financial Literacy

Sun Life Hong Kong Limited has generously pledged a donation of HK$200,000 to Uplifters, a dedicated non-profit that offers invaluable online education and community support tailored for migrant domestic workers. This funding is set to bolster Uplifters’ renowned “Dare to Dream” program, designed to impart crucial financial literacy training to around 1,000 migrant domestic workers each year in Hong Kong.

The initiative gains significance as it follows insights from Sun Life’s latest survey, “Women’s Wealth: Building Confidence and Security”, highlighting that 44% of mothers across Asia are burdened by the stress of balancing financial duties for both their children and elderly parents. Migrant domestic workers, who often shoulder the financial responsibility for families back home, face amplified financial and emotional pressures.

The “Dare to Dream” program offers a complimentary online course focusing on effective money management, personal growth, and mental health. Since its launch in 2018, the program has reached over 10,000 participants, with its community expanding to 14,700 members. Uplifters reports that an impressive 86% of graduates witness major positive transformations in their financial practices and personal lives.

Hong Kong hosts approximately 350,000 migrant domestic workers, many of whom lack comprehensive financial security beyond essential health and injury coverage. Sun Life’s donation is aimed at amplifying Uplifters’ reach, enabling the provision of financial literacy courses and fostering awareness about financial planning among this community.

David Broom, Chief Client and Distribution Officer of Sun Life Asia, emphasized the pivotal role of financial literacy in empowering migrant domestic workers. “At Sun Life, fostering financial literacy is central to our mission in Asia. We’re delighted to collaborate with Uplifters on this groundbreaking initiative, supporting foreign domestic helpers in Hong Kong and leveraging our expertise in Hong Kong, Indonesia, and the Philippines,” he stated.

This partnership with Sun Life exemplifies the power of collaboration in driving meaningful change for underserved groups in Hong Kong,” she remarked.
