Tokio Marine Kiln Strengthens its Specialty Insurance Team
Tokio Marine Kiln (TMK), a prominent player in the global specialty insurance market, has bolstered its team by bringing onboard two seasoned professionals, Jake Burgess and Ella Henderson. This strategic move is aimed at enhancing TMK’s expertise in the burgeoning sectors of Fine Art and Specie as well as Life Sciences.
Jake Burgess, with over a decade of experience in underwriting and claims, joins TMK from AXA XL where he held the position of Underwriting Manager for US Specie & West Zone Fine Art. Prior to this, he honed his skills at XL Catlin. In his new capacity at TMK, Burgess will report to Richard Hooks, who leads the Marine and Energy Department.
Meanwhile, Ella Henderson brings six years of experience in broking and underwriting, specializing in medical technology. Her previous roles at CFC Underwriting and Superscript have equipped her with a robust understanding of the Medtech sector. In her role at TMK, she will focus on Life Sciences and report to Kirsten Shastri, the Head of Life Sciences.
These appointments underscore TMK’s dedication to expanding its leadership in the Fine Art and Specie, and Life Sciences sectors. TMK provides comprehensive coverage against physical loss or damage risks in Fine Art and Specie, catering to a diverse clientele ranging from private collectors to financial institutions.
Henderson’s appointment comes on the heels of substantial growth in TMK’s Life Sciences portfolio, which has doubled over the past year. The introduction of the innovative IntelliMed product in 2023 has further cemented TMK’s reputation for delivering bespoke coverage solutions to both well-established Life Sciences companies and emerging niche sectors.
Vivek Syal, TMK’s Chief Underwriting Officer, remarked: “Bringing Jake and Ella into our team illustrates our commitment to deepening the talent pool across our business. Their wealth of experience and proven track records will enable us to continue enhancing our capabilities in these key strategic growth areas, helping us achieve our ambitious goals.”
