New Leadership Announcements at Labuan Reinsurance
Labuan Reinsurance (L) Ltd, commonly known as Labuan Re, has announced some significant changes in its leadership team. Encik Zaid Aziz Ibrahim, who has been serving as the Officer in Charge, is now stepping into the role of CEO & Principal Officer. Additionally, Melissa Karim has taken on the position of Acting Head of Underwriting.
Encik Zaid’s journey with Labuan Re began in 2020, and he was recently promoted to Officer in Charge following the departure of Puan Johana Era Zainuddin on December 31, 2024. Previously, Zaid held the position of Chief Underwriting Officer, and he brings with him an impressive 28 years of experience in risk management, consumer retail, and the insurance and reinsurance sectors across Malaysia and Singapore.
Melissa Karim’s association with Labuan Re started in January 2023 when she joined as Vice President, leading the Casualty, Financial Lines, and MGA Division. Her previous roles include Director of FINCAS at Aster Underwriting Agency and Executive Director of FINCAS at PWS Global Risks Labuan. Karim honed her expertise with a nine-year tenure at Asia Capital Re, where she was the Head of Casualty & Financial Lines. Her earlier career saw her in senior positions at CIMB, MIT Insurance Brokers Sdn Bhd, Marsh, and AIG.
