HDI Global Launches Innovative Climate Consulting Service
In a move to address the mounting challenges of climate change, commercial and specialty lines insurer HDI Global has unveiled Climate Consulting, a groundbreaking service aimed at helping businesses evaluate and mitigate climate-related risks. This pioneering service empowers companies to develop targeted strategies that reduce their vulnerability to acute and chronic physical climate risks at specific locations.
The Climate Consulting initiative is designed to help businesses proactively adapt to evolving climate conditions, including extreme weather events, rising temperatures, and increased heavy rainfall occurrences. By gaining an understanding of these risks, companies can take preemptive measures to protect themselves, according to HDI Global.
Lars Regner, Head of Resilience Services at HDI Risk Consulting, commented, “With Climate Consulting, we are addressing a growing demand from our clients for actionable and operational recommendations that enhance their climate resilience. Since last year, through Climate Risk Reporting, HDI has been assisting companies in complying with the regulations set by the EU taxonomy.”
Regner further added, “Businesses acknowledging their heightened exposure to climate risks are actively seeking effective mitigation strategies. Climate Consulting supports these companies with data-driven recommendations and on-site evaluations, helping to identify and manage climate risks, thereby increasing their resilience over the long term. Our service includes a technical risk assessment of specific plants, processes, and operations, analyzes future physical climate risks, and proposes effective risk-mitigation strategies.”
The Climate Consulting service provides comprehensive physical climate risk assessments, projecting exposure risks through to the year 2100 across various scenarios. The service delivers actionable recommendations through detailed analyses that include local climate, topography, and hazard history, complemented by targeted on-site inspections to identify infrastructure and operational vulnerabilities. Customized risk advisory reports offer practical mitigation strategies.
Dr. Dirk Höring, Member of the Executive Board of HDI Global, overseeing Property, Engineering, and Marine Insurance as well as HDI Risk Consulting, emphasized the significance of this initiative: “By integrating Climate Consulting into our service portfolio, we reinforce our role as a strategic and reliable partner in transformation, aiding businesses in navigating the increasing complexities of climate risks. We offer holistic, future-oriented solutions to address climate-related challenges and bolster company resilience in the long run. As climate change progresses, businesses must recognize their vulnerabilities and take proactive steps to protect themselves, even in the absence of immediate natural catastrophes. Understanding your risk and knowing how to protect yourself is crucial.”
