Leavitt Group Faces Allegations of Trade Secret Misuse
A division of the Leavitt Group has initiated legal proceedings in a federal court in Helena, Montana. The lawsuit, filed on Wednesday, accuses a former broker and Alliant Insurance Services Inc. of improperly utilizing proprietary information and trade secrets. This alleged misuse has reportedly led to significant business losses for the Leavitt Group.
Leavitt Great West Insurance Services LLC asserts that Krysta Theriault breached an employment agreement she had signed in June 2016. This agreement prohibited her from taking and using confidential information when she departed in May 2024 to join competitor Alliant. The legal case is titled Leavitt Great West Insurance Group v. Krysta Theriault et al.
According to Leavitt, Ms. Theriault has retained the information despite multiple requests for its return. It is alleged that she and Newport Beach, California-based Alliant are exploiting marketing leads, sales data, commission records, and other documents to disrupt Leavitt’s customer base and business partnerships.
The Montana branch of the Cedar City, Utah-based Leavitt Group claims that Alliant actively participated in and encouraged Ms. Theriault’s violations of her employment contract. Leavitt is charging Ms. Theriault with breach of contract and accusing both defendants of infringing upon the Defend Trade Secrets Act and the Montana Uniform Trade Secrets Act.
Efforts to reach representatives of the involved parties for comments have not yielded any responses.
